What's Milton’s new approach to Growth Management all about?
In recent years, area residents at community outreach meetings on a variety of subjects to include a Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) wide visioning process have expressed a desire for a well-planned approach to managing growth. They don’t want continued sprawl and paving over natural lands. Instead, residents expressed a desire to protect the community’s history, to keep the attributes that originally brought people to the area. They do not want to view vacant or run-down properties but desire that properties be improved with high quality “infill” to provide new jobs, new homes and new stores and services. That approach in the land planning world is referred to as “Smart Growth” and it is the basis for Milton’s new emphasis on growth management.

About the Planning and Development Department
The Planning and Development Department implements a variety of programs to assist in the development of the City's economic future and foster a better quality of life. The Department is responsible for planning and zoning, code enforcement, construction inspections and works closely with a variety of City Committee’s that guide economic development, housing and redevelopment for the City of Milton. Many projects that come before the City for review are presented to one or more boards or committees for recommendations to the City Council. Our department works to ensure that new construction and additions to existing structures meet the policies and guidelines that have been established for public safety, zoning and development. The department is also involved with special events, regional planning, and open space/ recreational activity programming.
